Scale dependence of mean transverse momentum fluctuations at 158 AGeV

چکیده
Non-statistical event-by-event fluctuations of mean transverse momentum, pT , have been proposed as a possible signature for the QCD phase transition, in particular for the critical point. A surprising finding was that a small but practically beam energy independent value was found for the broad energy range of 40 AGeV SPS beam up to top RHIC energy [1]. On the other hand, the fluctuations seem to be a non-monotonic function of centrality [2].

AGeV/c in Pb+Au Collisions
Abstract. Event-by-event fluctuations of mean pT and net charge in 40, 80, and 158 AGeV/c Pb+Au collisions are presented. The observed dynamical mean pT fluctuations in central events of about 1 % are very similar to results from RHIC. The centrality dependence of mean pT fluctuations at 158 AGeV/c shows a peculiar nonmonotonic pattern with respect to the extrapolation from the fluctuations mea...

We present new results of two-particle azimuthal correlations at high transverse momentum emerging from the analysis of the year 2000 data set recorded with the CERES Time-Projection Chamber.
متن کاملWhat to learn from dilepton transverse momentum spectra in heavy-ion collisions?
Recently the NA60 collaboration has presented high precision measurements of dimuon spectra double differential in invariant mass M and transverse pair momentum pT in In-In collisions at 158 AGeV [1]. While the M -dependence is important for an understanding of in-medium changes of light vector mesons and is pT integrated insensitive to collective expansion, the pT -dependence arises from an in...
متن کاملNon-monotonic behavior of multiplicity fluctuations
We discuss recently measured event-by-event multiplicity fluctuations in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. It is shown that the non-monotonic behavior of the multiplicity fluctuations as a function of collision centrality can be fully explained by the correlations between produced particles.. 1. Introduction Event-by-event fluctuations in heavy-ion collisions have been recently measured both a...
متن کاملSystematics of Jet Tomography at RHIC : √ s = 62 . 4 vs . 200
The collision energy dependence of jet tomography is investigated within the GLV formalism. We estimate systematic uncertainties resulting from the interplay of energy loss fluctuations and the rapid increase of the parton transverse momentum slopes as √ s decreases from 200 to 62.4 AGeV.
